Researchers Discovered A Planet That Rains Iron

The giant exoplanet — part of a new category of bodies called ‘ultra-hot Jupiters’ — has a scorching hot ‘dayside’ where temperatures can reach in excess of 2,40⁰⁰C, and a ‘nightside’ which is cooler by at least 1,00⁰⁰C. This means that on the former side, metals are vaporized by the ultra-hot temperatures and then carried across the planet by powerful winds. Once reaching the cooler side, the resulting iron vapor condenses into droplets of iron which rain down onto the surface of the planet....

Review Sun Haven Is An Adorable Farming Sim For Fantasy Fans

The game’s been called Stardew Valley meets Dungeons and Dragons, but it seems like that’s more of a shorthand way of saying it’s a farming-based life sim with fantasy elements. Quick and dirty version: This game is good; one day it’ll be great; some of you will want to buy it today and others should wait. If you’re a seasoned veteran when it comes to games such as Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, My Time At Portia, and Graveyard Keeper, you’ll find yourself right at home with Sun Haven....

Ring S Android App Reportedly Sends Data To Third Party Trackers

The report suggests the app (version 3.21.1) sends data to four trackers including Facebook’s graph API, a ‘deep linking’ platform called Branch, and analytics firms like AppsFlyer and Mixpanel through encrypted HTTPS standard. The information sent to these trackers includes names, unique device IDs, language preferences, time zones, devices’ IP addresses, and certain user actions, such as when someone interacts with the ‘Neighbors’ section of the app. [Read: Mozilla’s report shows just how awful Ring’s privacy practices are] A Ring spokesperson told TNW in an email statement that the company has third-party providers evaluate how its app is used, in order to improve the experience for customers: While sending data to third-party services may seem normal, EFF’s report points out that “the danger in sending even small bits of information is that analytics and tracking companies are able to combine these bits together to form a unique picture of the user’s device....

Rip Windows 7 Microsoft Ends Support Today

According to Microsoft’s end-of-support article for the OS, your Windows 7 computer “will still function but Microsoft will no longer provide …. Technical support for any issues…. Software updates… [or] Security updates or fixes.” In fact, it’s almost laughably passive-aggressive in its nudge to get users to buy a new PC that can run Windows 10: It’s been over ten years since Microsoft released Windows 7, and I have fond memories of installing it for the first time as a teenage stripling and enjoying how much less finicky it was than Vista....

Scientists Propose First Steps Toward Creating Life On Mars

And, if you believe the current hype, that day could come in the next couple of decades. NASA has every intention of sending a crewed mission to the red planet sometime in the 2030s. In the meantime, those of us who remain stuck here on Earth are left to wonder what such an accomplishment would ultimately mean for humankind. Is Elon Musk right? Is it imperative to the future of humanity that we become a “multiplanet species” as soon as possible?...

Scientists Successfully Created A Cybernetic Neural Network

They’ve made a cyborg. The team set out to recreate a classic experiment showing how neurons can “learn” by transferring information through synapses. In a classic neural network, various neurons “light up” in response to stimulus. Over time the neurons will require more or less stimulation to “fire,” thus demonstrating how neural networks adapt and learn. Read: Scientists discover strong evidence of life on Mars We’ve studied this concept in organic neural networks such as those found in living brains, but this is the first time it’s been done with both living and artificial neurons....

Scientists Use Supercomputers And Ai To Determine How Good Or Deadly Your Street Drugs Are

Approximately 70,000 deaths from drug overdose are recorded annually in the US alone. While the causes are both myriad and systemic, a significant number of these tragedies could potentially be avoided if consumers knew what was in their drugs. The issue relates to those who take both ‘legal’ prescription drugs under the care and advisement of properly-licensed medical professional and those who abuse prescription drugs or use so-called ‘street’ drugs....

Sharp S New Phone With A Massive 1 Inch Sensor Has Me Salivating

The 1-inch 20-megapixel camera sensor is the largest in the smartphone world, beating the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra’s 1/1.12-inch sensor.
