While some question if Facebook’s ‘cryptocurrency’ Libra will ever launch, the BoE’s FPC did recognize its potential to becoming an “important payment system,” City AM reports. These kinds of payment systems would need to demonstrate the system’s security and also undergo regulatory supervision, the FPC added. Well, Google did commit to its promise. Starting yesterday, Android users are able to use the ChargePoint app on their Android Auto compatible vehicle. To do that, they only need to connect a phone running on Android 6.0 or above, and to download the app from the Play Store. That’s great news for EV owners, as their car’s infotainment system will directly display all the charging information they need. Using this app, drivers can find nearby stations on the map, check compatibility with their EV, begin a charging session, and monitor available spots and waiting times....

The law will come into effect on January 1, 2020, and although officials haven’t gone into too much detail about it, reports say that permissions granted could vary depending on whether individuals work for the ruling party or not. “The enactment of the law was necessary for regulating the utilization and management of cryptography, facilitating the development of the cryptography business, and ensuring the security of cyberspace and information,” said state news agency Xinhua citing the country’s parliament....

The claims coming out of China are credible and the research paper appears to be totally legit....

At the moment, you can go to passwords.google.com and test out this feature to view and edit your passwords. The company said it’ll soon enable more Google and Google cloud services that allow this authentication method. The search giant said this feature is built by using FIDO2 standards, W3C WebAuthn, and FIDO CTAP. That makes it more secure than using native Android biometric APIs. Google said by using FIDO2, it can use the same authentication method both on the web and in the app....

As we emerge from the COVID shock and try to accelerate progress on decarbonization, should we prioritize larger or smaller-scale solutions? A million 1 kilowatt solar panels or a single 1 gigawatt nuclear reactor? 250 electric bikes or a single tram on a light transit system? £150 smart thermostats or £50,000 whole-home energy-efficient retrofits? Leading LCD and OLED panel manufacturers in the country have stated they believe that the total capacity utilization for LCD fabs could be reduced by 10 percent, reports IHS Markit. That number could increase to more than 20 percent during February. An acute shortage of essential LCD modules in China could emerge, with several third-party module suppliers having already reportedly ceased production.
