In a Medium post yesterday, Ford announced that it’s partnering with the Big G to help modernize its plants through use of AI, use its cloud services, develop new retail experiences, and create new ownership offers using connected vehicle data. It also means that Ford will use Android Automotive as the base operating system for its vehicles from 2023, and that’s big, big news. Why? Ford sells millions of vehicles each year....

The Blue Oval has said in a statement today that it will only sell EVs in Europe by 2030. By 2026 the company is aiming for all of its passenger vehicles to be capable of zero emission in driving. They’ll be either all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. Ford is laying out similar plans for its commercial vehicles, with aspirations for its range to be fully capable of zero emission driving by 2024....

At least, that’s the concept Russian self-driving startup Yandex and the Grubhub food app want to make reality. The two companies have teamed-up and announced on Tuesday that, later this fall, they’ll be rolling out food delivery services by autonomous robots at select campuses. Yandex, which can clumsily be described as Russia’s Google, will operate the robots and handle the entire food delivery process. Grubhub, which has partnerships with over 250 college campuses in the US, will serve as the platform for the delivery transactions....

Jio said that the phone will have features such as voice assistant, translation in multiple languages, and AR. Currently, the specifications and details of the phone are unknown. In a statement, Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai said that Google has worked on baking features for the device through a special version of Android: Notably, the search giant already has a version of Android for lower-end phones called Android Go. In a statement, the company hinted that the operating system for JioPhone Next might be based on it: In a blog post, Google previewed some of the features builts for JioPhone Next, including Assistant integration with Jio apps, listening to content on your phone screen in native languages, and translating text in another language on your phone screen or in your camera....

The new UI is meant to make it easier to interact with the display and access the information you’re looking for without having to summon the Assistant. Previously the displays features a long list of functions would could scroll through, and it could be difficult to access the exact feature you wanted. Now the displays will divide functions into a few different pages. Google’s Phone app, used in Pixel and Android One devices, may soon let you (again). Mishaal Rahman over at XDA spotted code in the app that suggests an overhaul of the app is coming. As noted by Rahman, recording phone calls was previously possible prior to Android Pie, and there hasn’t been an official call recording API since Android Marshmallow. It’s not clear if this is a feature that will ever roll out widely....

However, one of the most important changes is that Google will auto-delete your location history and web & app activity 18-months later — after you first turn them on. Now, web & app activity is turned on by default as soon as you make a Google account. However, location history is turned off by default, and you would need to turn it on explicitly by going into your account settings....

But one thing the technology can not do is “dupe humans” with its ability to write misinformation. Yet, you wouldn’t know that if you were solely judging by the headlines in your news feed. Wired recently ran an article with the title “GPT-3 can write disinformation now – and dupe human readers,” and it was picked up by other outlets who then reflected the coverage. While we’re certainly not challenging Wired’s reporting here, it’s clear that this is a case of potential versus reality....

A couple of days ago, Emil ‘Neex’ Lerner, a Russia-based security researcher, disclosed a remote-code execution vulnerability in PHP 7 – the latest iteration of the hugely popular web development language. With this vulnerability, which has the CVE-ID of 2019-11043, an attacker could force a remote web server to execute their own arbitrary code simply by accessing a crafted URL. The attacker only needs to add “?a=” to the website address, followed by their payload....

Shai Alfasi, a security researcher at Reason Labs, found that hackers are using these maps to steal information of users including user names, passwords, credit card numbers, and other info stored in your browser. [Read: Google now displays health info from the NHS directly in search results] Attackers design websites related to coronavirus in order to prompt you to download an application to keep you updated on the situation. This application doesn’t need any installation, and shows you a map of how COVID-19 is spreading....

According to data reviewed by Hard Fork, 15 blockchain-related firms have paid rewards to security researchers between March 28 and May 16, split across 30 publicly-released bug reports. Omise, the software firm behind cryptocurrency OmiseGo, fielded the most fixes (six).
