New Ai Algorithm Brings Us Closer Than Ever To Controlling Machines With Our Minds

While the research itself is interesting – they created an algorithm that keeps the devices from constantly needing to be re-calibrated to handle the human brain’s fluctuating neuronal activity – the real takeaway here is how close we are to a universal BCI. BCIs have been around for decades in one form or another, but they’re costly to maintain and difficult to keep working properly. Currently they only make sense for narrow use – specifically, in the case of those who’ve lost limbs....

Night At The Museum Brought To Life By New Mixed Reality Tech

But that all could change with the development of new “mixed reality” (MR) technology, which could inject new forms of interactive storytelling into our museums – introducing holographic tour guides and immersive digital displays in place of finger-smudged glass cabinets and faded information boards. Unlike the total immersion of virtual reality (VR), or the computer screen required for augmented reality (AR), MR uses a head-mounted glass display, similar to the Google Glass spectacles, which enables the user to see their real-world surroundings while virtual features are overlaid on top, creating a sense of mixed perception....

Nobody S Listening To Your Bad Audio This In Depth Audio Production Training Can Help

Here’s a little tidbit for all you podcasters and wannabe podcasters out there: invest in knowing how to record good audio. While quality audio certainly does wonders for the professionalism of a recording, it even plays a surprisingly large role in whether listeners even take the whole project seriously. Nocturnal Animals Keep Getting Lost And Light Pollution Is To Blame

Electric lighting is transforming our world. Around 80% of the global population now lives in places where night skies are polluted with artificial light. A third of humanity can no longer see the Milky Way – the galaxy our solar system belongs to. But the light at night has deeper effects. In humans, nocturnal light pollution has been linked to sleep disorders, depression, obesity, and even some types of cancer....

Notebag Is For Note Takers Who Need A Notation Process As Fast As They Are

For as long as students have sat in classrooms or scholars have scoured relevant texts, note taking has been a human art form. Of course, the process of determining what’s worthy of being jotted down and what can go by unregistered is an art in itself. It’s also why the highly idiosyncratic best methods of note taking still remain such a mystery to many, not to mention so time-consuming. It possibly because they’ve never had the right tool to integrate notes into their work, especially in the digital age....

Nvidia Built An Ai That Creates 3D Models From 2D Images

Called “DIB-R,” the AI takes a picture of any 2D object – an image of a bird, for example – and predicts what it would look like in three dimensions. This prediction includes lighting, texture, and depth. Credit: Nvidia DIB-R stands for differentiable interpolation-based renderer, meaning it combines what it “sees,” a 2D image, and makes inferences based on a 3D “understanding” of the world. This is strikingly similar to how humans translate the 2D input from our eyes into a 3D mental image....

Onlyfans Wants To Find Solutions For Sex Workers After Its Stupid Porn Ban

As my colleague, Napier pointed out, this move is dumb. It comes in the wake of payment processors bullying the platform into banning sexually explicit content for a ‘clean’ image. However, porn is one of the most popular content categories on OnlyFans, and the ban deprives a lot of sex workers of a chance to earn more money. After facing a lot of backlash over this decision, the company addressed the issue over the weekend, and recognized that sex workers have played a huge part in OnlyFans’ growth....

Our Fragile 40 Years Old Banking Infrastructure Can Only Be Saved With Ai

For banks and financial institutions, such problems are particularly unsettling. IT disruptions lock costumers out of their accounts, disabling them from paying for food, rent or petrol. This is a known and old problem with no easy fix: banks are running legacy systems that are 30-40 years old....

Over A Third Of Coronavirus Patients Show Neurological Symptoms Study Reports

In the vast majority of cases, COVID-19 is a respiratory infection that causes fever, aches, tiredness, sore throat, cough, and, in more severe cases, shortness of breath and respiratory distress. It appears that we have to add neurological symptoms to this list, too....

Pants Or No Pants Tips For Virtual Job Interviews From Home

And with good reason. Social scientists have found that traditional interviews – without set questions or scoring metrics – are poor predictors of job performance. When this happens, interviewers make subjective judgments based on irrelevant information, like physical appearance and nonverbal cues. Illegal stereotypes based on gender and race may also be at play. And unfortunately, employment litigation has not succeeded in tamping down these practices. Although many companies were successfully sued in the early 2000s for making subjective employment decisions in hiring, pay and promotion, a Supreme Court ruling in 2012 made those claims nearly impossible to bring as a class action....
