Space weather such as solar flares and changes in the solar wind affects Earth’s ionosphere (a layer of charged particles in the upper atmosphere). This in turn has an impact on long-distance radio communications and the orbits of some satellites, as well as creating fluctuations in the electromagnetic field that can wreak havoc with electronics in space and down to the ground. The phone will apparently live alongside the existing Fold and Flip series, rather than replace one of them. According to the report, the purpose of the triptych design is to enable a more mainstream 16:9 or 2:1 (sometimes unnecessarily called 18:9) aspect ratio when the device is unfolded. The existing Galaxy Fold has a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded, while the Galaxy Flip comes in at 21:9. The more mainstream aspect ratio would far better fit the plethora of 16:9 movies and TV shows, while 2:1 has rapidly become more popular the last few years, often seen with Netflix original content....
Now it appears the companies are following up their partnership with an updated table lamp and a new product altogether. According to The Verge, Ikea and Sonos are preparing to launch a speaker that doubles as wall art. Ikea teased the updated Symfonisk speakers on its Instagram account, although it didn’t say what specifically was coming. The new speakers, however, show up in FCC listings. The Verge says it’s seen an early image of the wall art speaker, which is codenamed Titan, but it’s not clear at the moment if the speaker guts can be separate from the wall art....

For example, bacteria can pump the antibiotics out, or they can break the antibiotics down. They can also stop growing and divide, which makes them difficult to spot for the immune system. However, our research has focused on another little known method that bacteria use to become antibiotic-resistant. We have directly shown that bacteria can “change shape” in the human body to avoid being targeted by antibiotics – a process that requires no genetic changes for the bacteria to continue growing....

The teams, based at the University of Toronto and the Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University, just published a proof of concept that allows smartphone users to track blood pressure by taking a short video. “We’re using a tech called transdermal optical imaging,” Kang Lee, a developmental psychologist at the University of Toronto and the lead author of the paper told Quartz. The idea is to use light emitted by a smartphone camera to detect proteins as it bounces off the skin....
